Was it rectangular, square, or swallowtailed? A red swallowtained flag is the Bravo (letter "B") in the International Flags carried by ships. A ship flying Bravo flag is carrying a hazardous substance, or transferring a hazardous substance (fuel oil) to the shore or another vessel.
