The last I remember the Cort being in the lower lakes was 1984 when they brought her up through the ice jam that occurred that spring on the St. Clair River. I am not sure where she had wintered that year but I believe that was her first trip of the season. It proceed up past the blue water bridge after dark that day. For years there was a advertisement in the yearly Greenwood's and Dill's Lake Boats booklet for Bethlehem that read "Follow the Leader" and had a picture of the old Kinsman Independent following the Cort up the St. Clair River in the ice. The Coast Guard at that time let the Cort proceed up unassisted because she was able to plow through the ice. The Independent being much smaller road close to her stern and was able to keep moving, however, if I remember correctly the Independent finally became stuck and the Cort continued on leaving her to fend for herself.
