Good to see the Reiss going back into service, another Maritimer to watch. She fits GRN/LLT's operations pattern perfectly. The forward boom is relevant for getting in tight spots, such as Osborne's in Fairport, where Calumet and Maumee are used as LST's, by lightering the bow, shoving it up to the bank, and swinging the boom as far around forward as it will go. This operation has been the exclusive domain of Calumet and Maumee. Other boats, such as Pathfinder and the ON riverboats attempt it, but end up not being able to reach all the pile locations. I believe Mckee Sons made it OK once or twice. The bigger boats can't get near the furthests spots. There are other awkward locations where the forward boom has an advantage, like the Ontario dock by the lift bridge on Whiskey Island. It will be interesting to see what happens with Maumee. It seems as if the LLT boats were busy all season, so it could be there is room for both Reiss and Maumee. Of course there are rumors that Maumee has problems, but problems can be repaired. It depends on money and expected traffic. Wonder what name the Reiss will get? "Fairport" would suit her, considering how often she's visited in the past, and will probably continue to do so.
