There are always lights on in the pilothouse, but they are red or sometimes blue so they don't kill ones night vision. The lights are over the chart table, in the compass, shaft revolution counter and sometimes the engine tachometer if installed. There is usually a light over the telephone as well. These are usually very small dim lights and can't be seen from outside.
