Last night I watched as the Sam Risely come downbound on the St. Marys River and instead of departing the River and heading out into Lake Huron, she turned and went into Potogannising Bay on her way to Little Current. I also heard her telling Soo traffic that she was now in the "Turkey Route" on her way to Little Current. I have lived here for 35 years and have never heard that route called that. Does anyone know why its called that, how it got that name, is it commonly called that by the freighters, etc? We always have referred to it for the small boaters as the "Gateway to the North Channel" Any sailors out there have any info on it? Thanks in advance.
