There is an electrical control cable that runs from the Tug to the Barge. The Pilothouse has all the normal controls for steering. The tug has a Chief engineer, First Assistant Engineer and a helper. The combo. can be operated from the Tug in an emergency. The Tug always pushes the Barge, never tows it.
