Basically: She sailed for Bethlehem Steel, was the last ship built by Great Lakes Engineering Works, was originally 730-ft. x 75-ft. but was lengthened to 826-ft. in 1975. It was named for Mr. Arthur Bartlett Homer, a high ranking Bethlehem Steel official. (info from: Namesakes of the 80's by John O. Greenwood). If you go to the Home Page of this site and choose Photo Galleries - Historic Photo Gallery - there are four photos to the Homer, which include pictures of her bow caved in from a head on collision in 1972. - Dick Lund
