Hello, from what I have read, all the maritimers had stress crack and structural problems due to a hasty design process which apparently left some flaws in the strength of the hull. So from what I have read most of them had a 2 foot wide 1 inch thick plate welded along the entire length of the hull along side and on deck. I may be wrong, but this is what I have read in a book, and also heard from a few knowlegeable sources. I have personally seen the deck strapping on the Cuyahoga, it was a 2 foot wide, 1 inch thick steel plate welded on deck a few feet in from the rails and tucks in under the hatch coamings, this deck strap is what redesigned her hatch coamings. -Steve
