It seems to me that nuggets, which are 90% iron, could reduce the amount of traffic on the lakes. A blast furnace will require one third less nugget tonnage to yied the same iron output versus using pellets that are 60% iron. On the other hand, highly concentrated nuggets can be used in an electric arc furnace which may open traffic to mini-mills. However, since most mini-mills are scattered throughout the country, railways will probably be the bigger winner if nuggets become common.
