The longest freighter of any kind on the Great Lakes (which happens to haul mostly coal) is the Paul R. Tregurtha, at 1,1013'6". The next longest ships are 1004'. Also, a slight terminology correction, the ships that haul coal are not technically "tankers", which is a term used for ships that carry liquid bulk cargo, (like crude oil, gasoline, liquor, or liquid chemicals) not dry bulk cargo (like coal, ore, or grain).
