Yes, I've heard that before too that the Roger Blough is one of the best boats in ice. She has a very high horsepower-to-length ratio of 16.3. I understand ships with a ratio of less than 6.5 make poor boats in ice. Of course even a powerful boat like the Blough can have problems, like she did off Conneaut in 1979. In January 1979 they tried to use her as an icebreaker in heavy ice in the Livingstone Channel and was nearly pushed ashore by the ice.
